It all started precisely at 9:00 AM on a Friday, and it all started with a single, massive sneeze.

"AH... AH... " Emberleaf the tiny garden dragon threw her head back and sneezed so incredibly hard that a massive, thick cloud of sparkling, intensely concentrated magic dust puffed forcefully out of her tiny nostrils. The wind instantly caught it, blowing the glowing green dust evenly across the entire enchanted garden.

" said Sunny the tall sunflower politely, bending her thick green stalk gracefully downward toward the small dragon.

"Thank you very much," Emberleaf sniffled miserably, rubbing her scaly nose with her front claws.

But before Emberleaf could even fetch a tissue, it became incredibly obvious that something highly strange and alarming was happening. The magic dragon dust had settled like a thin layer of glitter on absolutely everything—and as a result, absolutely everything in the local environment started behaving totally backwards.

the garden behaving backwards

First, the light morning rain began heavily falling directly upward instead of downward. Small drops of water began slowly rising out of the muddy puddles, floating upward past the tree branches, and shooting directly back up into the grey clouds above.

Then, the colorful monarch butterflies began flying completely backwards in confusion, blindly bumping into leaves, twigs, and regularly into each other with soft little thuds.

Worst of all, Sunny's massive yellow petals slowly began to fold inward and close tightly shut—even though it was the brightest, sunniest middle part of the day.

" Sunny said, her normally booming, cheerful voice muffled by her own rapidly closing petals.

Suddenly, Nebula the magical firefly flickered into view from behind a rosebush. But instead of powerfully glowing and shedding warm, golden light normally... she was aggressively absorbing light. Everywhere she confidently flew, the air around her immediately got extremely dim and slightly darker.

" Nebula screamed, staring at her own shadowy tail in sheer terror. "This is terrible!

" Emberleaf panicked, clasping her claws together. "I absolutely didn't mean to do any of this!

"It is perfectly okay to make mistakes," Sunny said gently and kindly from deep inside her tightly closed, dark petals, trying to comfort her friend. "Accidents absolutely happen to everyone. But maybe we really should focus heavily on fixing it before nighttime arrives.

Emberleaf sat down on the path and thought as hard as a young dragon could possibly think. The sneeze had powerfully scattered her internal magic dust practically everywhere. In order to cleanly reverse the disruptive spell, logic dictated she desperately needed to collect the magic dust entirely back.

" she wondered aloud, sounding incredibly defeated.

Nebula the dark-fly suddenly had a brilliant idea. "Wait! When things are completely dark, magic sometimes glows!

It was the only viable plan they had. Nebula immediately flew low through the wide garden, deliberately creating large, concentrated patches of shadow. And miraculously, everywhere her deep darkness effectively touched, thousands of tiny, bright green sparkles suddenly appeared vividly. It was the magic dust, awkwardly clinging tightly to green leaves, flower stems, and, in one memorable instance, completely covering one very confused caterpillar who was currently loudly protesting while walking backwards on a thin twig.

Emberleaf got straight to work. She ran around the garden, following Nebula's shadows. —powerfully pulling the stray magic dust back inside her nose where it belonged.

Progress was slow but steady. One by one, things began returning permanently to normal. The upward rain paused and began falling properly downward again splashing onto the dirt. The startled butterflies quickly turned around, much happier to see where they were actually going. Sunny's massive yellow petals slowly and fully opened wide, and she beamed radiantly and happily up toward the shining sun.

Finally, Nebula flickered her wings rapidly—and successfully glowed bright yellow again. The shadows immediately banished. "Hooray! I am finally me! " she cheered, doing happy loops in the air.

Emberleaf sat heavily down in the exact middle of the garden path, thoroughly exhausted but massively relieved. Looking around, she felt a wave of peace. Absolutely everything was perfectly oriented back the right way around.

"I promise I will be incredibly, intensely careful with my sneezes from now on," she said, rubbing her now-tired nose.

Sunny leaned her large head down kindly. "You know what I truly love the absolute most about you, Emberleaf? You made a very large, chaotic mistake today, but you didn't hide. You took responsibility and worked very hard to fix it.

Emberleaf smiled warmly, feeling incredibly proud of herself. Then, suddenly, she abruptly felt another disastrous tickle forming deep in her left nostril. Her eyes went completely wide in terror.

"Ah... ah...

" Sunny and Nebula shouted aggressively in total unison, looking absolutely panicked.

Emberleaf squeezed her eyes shut tightly. She pinched her small nose closed with both claws. She held her breath until her purple face turned a slight shade of blue. She held the sneeze totally in. Just barely.

And because of her bravery and self-control, the lovely magical garden remained perfectly, beautifully, precisely the correct way around for the rest of the sunny afternoon.
