The Dragon Who Hated Mornings
Little Emberleaf loves cozy sleep far more than early mornings—until one magical sunrise adventure helps the sleepy dragon discover that some of nature’s most beautiful moments only appear to those who wake up in time to see them.

In a flower-covered cave beside the hills lived a small green dragon named Emberleaf.
Emberleaf loved many things. Warm berry muffins, soft moss pillows, and watching butterflies float through the valley. But most of all, Emberleaf loved sleeping.
Morning was his least favorite thing in the entire world.
Every sunrise began the same way.
"Good morning, Emberleaf!" chirped the wrens outside.
"Mmmph," Emberleaf mumbled into his pillow.
The sunlight peeked through the cave entrance, and Emberleaf pulled a blanket over his head. Outside, the buttercups slowly opened toward the morning light while Emberleaf stayed wrapped up like a sleepy burrito.
"One more minute," he whispered every single morning.
Which usually became ten more minutes. Or twenty. Or sometimes a lot more than that.
One morning, Emberleaf finally crawled out of bed near lunchtime. The butterflies were already dancing through the valley and the bees were buzzing happily between flowers. His friend Nutter the squirrel stared at him with wide eyes, halfway through an acorn.
"You missed it again!" Nutter squeaked.
"Missed what?" Emberleaf yawned.
"The glowing dew!"
"The what?"
Nutter bounced excitedly on his rock.
"When the sun rises, tiny drops of dew on the flowers sparkle like rainbow jewels! It only lasts a few minutes!"
Emberleaf blinked slowly. "That sounds… pretty."
"It is!" Nutter said. "But you're always asleep."

Emberleaf frowned. Every day he missed things — the singing birds, the cool morning breeze, the sleepy mist over the hills. Even the flowers seemed happiest in the morning.
That night, Emberleaf made an important decision.
"I'm going to wake up early tomorrow," he announced proudly.
Nutter looked suspicious. "Really?"
"Yes," Emberleaf said firmly. "Tomorrow. For real this time."
The next morning, the birds chirped and the sunlight glowed softly through the cave entrance. Emberleaf opened one eye.
"Mmm…"
His moss pillow felt unbelievably cozy, his blanket warm, the whole cave peaceful. Outside looked… cold.
Emberleaf slowly started pulling the blanket back over his head. Then he remembered the glowing dew.
"No," he whispered.

With the biggest yawn in dragon history, Emberleaf climbed out of bed. He stretched his tiny wings, shuffled outside, and stopped completely.
The valley sparkled.

Tiny drops of morning dew covered every flower and blade of grass, and when the sunrise touched them, the whole meadow shimmered like it had been sprinkled with rainbow diamonds. Golden light rolled across the hills. Butterflies fluttered through the mist. Birdsong echoed gently through the morning air.
Emberleaf's eyes grew wide.
"It's beautiful," he whispered.
Nutter grinned proudly from a nearby rock, acorn forgotten in his paw.
"Told you."
Emberleaf walked slowly through the glowing flowers. The morning air felt cool and fresh. The world felt quieter somehow. Calmer. Like nature was softly waking up together.
Then Emberleaf smiled. Maybe mornings were not the enemy after all.
From that day on, waking up early was still difficult sometimes. Emberleaf still loved cozy blankets. He still yawned dramatically and bargained for "just one more minute."
But whenever he wanted to stay in bed forever, he remembered the glowing valley waiting outside.
And little by little, the sleepy dragon learned that some of life's most magical moments happen at the very beginning of the day.
