The Starship Whiffle zoomed through the stars.

Milo was exploring the control room when—BONK!—his elbow bumped a big red button.

WHOOP-WHOOP-WHOOP! The lights blinked. The whole ship went dark.

Uh-oh.

Captain Zog floated in. “Who turned off the Whiffle?”

Everyone looked around. Milo’s tummy felt wobbly.

He could stay quiet. Nobody saw.

But his heart went thump-thump-thump.

“It… it was me,” Milo said. “I bumped the button. I’m sorry.”

Captain Zog blinked. “Hmm! Thank you for telling the truth, little explorer.”

“Now,” said Zog, “can you help us fix it?”

Milo gulped. “I’ll try.”

The button was stuck fast. Milo pushed. Nothing.

Bloop read the alien instructions. “It says: press twice, then wiggle.”

Milo pressed. Wiggle-wiggle. Nothing.

“Keep going!” beeped Nova, glowing bright.

Milo tried again. And again. His arms grew tired.

“I can’t,” he whispered.

“You almost have it,” said Gloob, sniffing the air. “I smell success!”

So Milo took a big breath. Press, press, WIGGLE—

KA-CHUNK! The lights blazed back on!

WHOOSH! The Starship Whiffle zoomed forward again.

“Hooray!” cheered the crew.

Captain Zog patted Milo. “You told the truth AND you never gave up. That’s a real Space Diver.”

Milo grinned, glowing almost as bright as Nova.

“Next time,” he said, “I’ll keep my elbows to myself!”

And off they flew, laughing, into the twinkling stars.

What Kids Learn

  • Telling the truth—even when nobody saw—is a brave thing to do
  • Owning a mistake helps everyone fix it faster
  • “I can’t” often just means “I can’t YET”
  • Friends cheer you on when a task feels too hard
  • Perseverance means trying again after it doesn’t work the first time
  • Honesty earns trust and warm respect, not punishment

Parents Corner

A quick, giggly Space Divers adventure that pairs two big ideas for little ones: telling the truth when you could easily hide, and persevering when a task feels too hard. Crucially, Milo’s honesty is met with warmth rather than punishment—exactly the response that makes children more willing to be honest next time.

Great as a fun bedtime read or a springboard for talking about owning mistakes and not giving up.

It’s written for ages 3–8. The silly sound effects delight younger kids, while the honesty theme resonates with older ones.
