On a bright and breezy morning, Daisy was admiring the farm’s biggest pumpkin.

It sat proudly at the top of Farmer Fred’s garden hill.

Round.

Orange.

Enormous.

Daisy tilted her head.

“That pumpkin is bigger than Chuck’s ego.”

Chuck gasped dramatically.

“My ego is perfectly sized.”

Penny rolled in the mud nearby and laughed so hard she nearly snorted into a puddle.

Even Sheldon lifted one sleepy eyebrow.

Then a little butterfly landed on the giant pumpkin.

The pumpkin wobbled.

Everyone froze.

The butterfly flapped away.

The pumpkin wobbled again.

Then—

ROLLLLLLLLLLL

The giant pumpkin began rolling down the hill.

” Daisy shouted.

“It’s escaping!”

The pumpkin bounced over a patch of carrots.

CRUNCH

Carrots flew into the air like orange rockets.

Penny squealed with laughter.

“It’s making vegetable fireworks!”

Chuck leaped forward and struck his ninja pose.

“I shall stop the rogue pumpkin.”

He ran after it with surprisingly tiny duck feet.

The pumpkin rolled through the sunflower field.

Tall flowers bent sideways as it passed.

Petals fluttered into the air like confetti.

Daisy charged after it.

Penny bounced through the mud behind her.

Sheldon slowly followed while still chewing a leaf.

The pumpkin rolled faster.

Down the grass slope.

Across the meadow.

Straight toward Farmer Fred’s pond.

” Daisy cried.

Chuck jumped onto a hay bale and launched himself like a duck ninja missile.

WHOOSH

He landed right on top of the pumpkin.

For one glorious second, he looked heroic.

Then the pumpkin kept rolling.

Chuck spun around on top of it.

“THIS WAS NOT PART OF THE PLAN!”

Penny laughed so hard she rolled beside it.

Daisy noticed something ahead.

The old apple tree.

A brilliant idea popped into her head.

” she called.

“Can you move those hay bales?”

Sheldon blinked slowly.

Then, to everyone’s surprise, he sprinted forward.

He nudged the hay bales into place near the bottom of the hill.

A soft squishy wall formed right in front of the pumpkin’s path.

The pumpkin rolled straight into it.

FWUMP

It stopped.

Chuck popped out of the hay upside down.

“I meant to do that.”

Everyone burst into laughter.

Farmer Fred arrived just in time to see the giant pumpkin safely resting in the hay.

“Well done,” he said, smiling.

“That pumpkin was for tomorrow’s harvest festival.”

Daisy puffed proudly.

“We saved the harvest.”

Penny bounced in the mud.

Chuck bowed dramatically.

Sheldon returned to chewing his leaf.

The next day, the giant pumpkin sat in the middle of the festival with a sign that read:

And from then on, whenever the wind blew across the hill, Daisy would look at the pumpkins and whisper,

“Don’t even think about it.”
